Valve Trouble 636
Posted by: noreen822 - 08-17-2012, 04:57 AM - Forum: Southwest - No Replies

2 weeks ago i cracked the head on my 04 636 had it welded up and i pulled the cams to look to see how far down the crack went because it was in the timing chain area. i put it together a few times but could never get the timing right. i went through the posses 6 or 7 times maybe more, i would always turn it over my hand first before trying to start it to make sure i didnt have any clearance issues. and finally after failing to have to start up and sound like its supposed to i decided to pull the cams out to check if i had a bent valve. after looking at the valve tappets on the exhaust side, i noticed not one of them was even with any of the other ones. one was really high up pulled the tappet off and the valve keepers fell out and the valve dropped. another one is stuck 1/16th inch below where its supposed to sit. and the rest just have weak springs. i know i have to replace all the valves and springs on the exhaust side, so basically my question is who is the best place for aftermarket parts because i know nothing of the street bike after market??

Just got my first 50 - few questions
Posted by: broham - 08-17-2012, 04:55 AM - Forum: Artwork - Replies (1)

I finally picked up a fifty because I found a good deal on it. It's kind of a Frankenstein bike with a whole bunch of parts from different manufacturers. I've fixed all the small things, but I have a few that have me scratching my head.

I'm going to have to do a top end rebuild because it's smoking a little bit. It's got an 88 kit, but I dont know how to identify the manufacturer. Does it even matter, or can I just buy any piston/rings for the rebuild?? I'm pretty sure it's a stock head, but I'm not even sure of that either..

One more problem. The front wheel is disc, but the caliper broke off along with the mounting tab that connected to the left fork. I was given the caliper, line, and master when I bought the bike... But I have a feeling it is impossible to repair. Any suggestions?

Looking for a bike for my roommate, pretty simple only a few requirements:

must have clean title
must be running, no mechanical issues
I'm in Carbondale, IL 62901

Does NOT have to be street legal, we can wire up some lights ourselves for that

His budget is $2,500 so nothing for more than that since he needs money for plates, insurance and gear

Let me know what you got

 new to stunting, crf230f
Posted by: crf230f - 08-14-2012, 11:18 PM - Forum: Quads / Dirtbikes / Motard / Trials - No Replies

a local motocross rider was selling his 230f and I got it for $1300 with the intention of learning to stunt on it. Done a few wheelies in the backyard of my house but not sure if I should take it in lots with knobby wheels.

The bike takes a while to warm up, it's geared down -2 in the back, not sure about the front, for racing, the throttle sticks awful, the electric starter was taken off and a custom button thing the guy made was put on to replace it.

I feel like it's not exactly the safest thing to learn stunting on but ah well, I got some good gear. I'll put up some pics soon maybe, but I guess I was just starting this post to get some tips. Anything about the 230f I should know about maybe, and tips for learning on a db. I want to move up to a big sportbike when I get the $$$ for it, but the look of the sumo is growing on me a lot. Too bad the price tag for those is usually higher
