\r\n \r\n Built my a tower back in 05 when Dual core was coming out. Spend 1000$ total on
\n \nDual core 3ghz processor \nNvidia 7800gt \n2x2gb ddr3 ram \n2 200gb harddrives \nTower \nMotherboard \nand all the random other crap. \n \n6-12 months later my computer was worth maybe about 350-500$. \n \nId say check your local frys or newegg for deals. Everythings so cheap now its rediculous. \n \nI7 processor and motherboard: $150-300 \nMid-High end graphics card: $100-200 \n4 gigs of memory: $40-60 \n500gb Harddrive: $50 \nTower: $50-100 \nMiscellaneous fans and components: $20 \nOptional: \nScreen: $100 \n \nAll in all you could get a pretty awesome computer for around $500\r\n

\r\n \r\n i just built my computer, i ended up spending 800 dollars.. I built it for gaming and all the games i played have been played on maxed out settings.. I\'m sure it would edit hd vids like a champ.. as long as you take time to look for good deals you will be straight and can easily build a beast for under a G. Microcenter has really good prices, for example i got the I-5 2500K processor (3.3 ghz and 3.7ghz turbo) for 179 there. but also check newegg.com they have some good prices... and if you are video editing, you will most likely be dealing with HD nowadays, so make sure you have alot of ram, i would say atleast 8 gigs or more of ddr3.. but here is what my computer has
\n \nthermaltake V3 mid-size tower \ngigabyte p67 motherboard (make sure you choose your motherboard wisely, and make sure it will be able to upgrade in the future, meaning if you plan on using 8 gigs of ram right now, then dont buy a motherboard that can only handle 8 gigs of ram, otherwise down the road you wont be able to add more, and make sure it supports your processor before buying(just make sure its the same socket type)) \ngigabyte 1GB HD 5770 graphics card, overclocked from the factory \n650 watt power supply \n8 gigs of ram \n1.5 TB hard drive space.. \nand i loaded it up with fans, and it runs really cool\r\n

Just sold all my old junk, now looking to build my own Tower. Im not that new to computers but I am squid to building one from scratch. Any pointers?
My thoughts: i7 processor minimum of 1.06ghz 6GB system RAM Dedicated graphics card(Not integrated) I think Im looking for a ATI or NVIDIA with 256mb of ram or higher? DirectX 9 or 10 compatible graphics and sound These are actually system requirements for the editor I want(AVID) but I dont really know much about differences between hardware parts.  Wrong forum website yes, but maybe there are some killer computer geeks on here I am unaware of ??
