Input on building a PC

I just want a kick ass RELIABLE rig for Photoshop, some video editing and 3d rendering. I really want to get back into Maya.

Shit I just rebuilt my system not even 2 years ago and it's complete POOP right now.

This is what I am running right now.

Microsoft Windows XP
Intel(R) Core(TM)2Duo CPU
E8400@3.00GHZ
3.00GHz, 3.25GB of Ram
GeForce 9800 GT

... and it a big pile of crap that cost a pretty penny at the time...

Yeah, that's a toaster.

I kept having that happen to me. I would build a machine, 2yrs later it was dogshit.

I made the switch and have not looked back.

This is all excellant information guys, I appreciate the input. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever liquid cooled their computer because it was sooo jacked on high performance parts?? I think I might have seen one before awhile ago. . .cant remember now.

I have a few friends that went liquid cooled. Great for gaming, animations or high end rendering machines. I am sure you will see it used more frequently since things are getting smaller and boxed up tighter(less air flow)

We're talking $ tho.

Keep in mind, there is a sweet spot between mid-range and high-end components that normally offer a great bang for buck. The absolute highest-end components normally come at very high premium compared to their actual performance benefit.

here is a cheap alternative which can work much better.


you can get a laptop unders $700 12'' screen on ebay + 42" LCD TV under $250, And buy PC woofers for 150.there my friend you have your personal studio.

If im not mistaken, that setup doesnt really work. I had that same video card in my last computer. . . You need a "dedicated" graphics card to be able to handle HD editing. The Intel HD graphics (integrated) cant handle the demand of my software.(Tech support pointed that out to me when my squidness thought the editor was the reason for all my problems)

Plus Laptops aren't really #1 choice for video editing programs to be used on.
