The clip style is fine if you get a better chain. The master link is only going to be as strong as the tensile strength of the chain. A cheap chain with a clip style is going to snap alot faster then a more expensive chain with the clip style link.
Rivet is the best way to go and you can buy the rivet tools for pretty cheap and its very easy to install. Once you get the hang of using the tool, I find it easier to install a rivet style then a clip style
