After I peeled it off, then removed all the paint on where I wanted the grip and it I guess stuck better because it was just bare metal contact with the 3M sprat and HT Moto grip. That's funny, I had a friend say 3M spray worked great, so I was going to try that next. I talked to the lady in the paint department and she told me that the 3M spray would break down the paint as well.

She told me loctite powergrab would bond best with a painted surface and foam material. So I'm giving that a shot to see how it works. My only concern with sanding down the paint to bond straight to the metal, would be that the tank could still rust from water seeping through the foam.
