yeah the castle nuts...noone else is saying anything about having to remove them first so im out here trying to use the 12mm bolt head but she aint budgin..i got the ($100) castle nut tool for the swingarm, but im hoping i dont need to go get another smaller one for the engine. i tried making one out of a socket and i fucked it up so i really dont feel like trying again

so mike/ryan/anyone...did you have to remove the lock rings BEFORE using the 12mm bolt?

nevermind, just got it

big ole allen key freed them up and the lock rings spun right off...takin frame off now, ill report back with pics alittle later

thanks for the help so far everyone! great learning experience...very frustrating at times but im sure the next time will go alot smoother and easier. might be sooner than i thought, my boy may be needing a frame swap on his f4i soon lol

update for the day...once i got the frame off i kept busy with a bunch of stuff...although it took longer than i was hoping to get it fully stripped, its finally there. overall wasnt really that bad at all. im sure re-assembly will be a BLAST but i think i did pretty good keeping everything labeled for the most part.

will work on prepping frame and swingarm tommorow, maybe get some coats of primer if the weather is nice enough. gonna sand as much of the surface area that i can and clean it really good with acetone.

few little parts taped up waiting to be prepped...got all these painted today

redid my tank dent..i got the bike with a real shitty half ass otown so i worked with what i had..i had it pretty nice before with some surf grip and a kickpad for lip but the dent itself wasnt wide enough and i didnt fit it in right...so i ripped off the grip which was contact cemented on (sucked) and stripped it all down (learned that my bike was previously black, blue, and yellow) lol. widened it out a good amount and worked alittle better of a lip on it.. should be alot better. im skinny so i dont have to go too crazy. gonna add another grip on so no point to go nuts on the stripping. quick coat of black and a nice new surf pad and she'll be good to go

and how the bike sits as of now...got the rims and subframe clearcoated so those are done...gonna prep and paint some more small parts tommorow and keep busy

since its raining all week here in san diego i decided to paint my rims. did u spray paint? what prep work? i imagine power washer but any sand papaering?

the front rim i bought used and it had the worst spray paint job ever on it...no primer, paint flaked off like nothing so i had to strip that whole wheel down to the metal..after stripping it i gave it some light sanding just to roughen it up then cleaned the rim with acetone to get any leftover particles/grime. the rear rim i painted green last year and was still in good shape so all i did was sand it alil bit to scuff it up then acetone. then i spray 2-3 coats of primer, and then 3-4 coats of spray paint, then 2-3 coats of clear. ive spray painted 4 different sets of streetbike rims and all have held up fine. obviously its not gonna hold up like powdercoat so be careful installing the wheel and shit, but other than that itll be fine. i usually just used regular home depot rusto but since i wanted to go with a cooler color and since i was going all out painting the frame and shit, i ordered special graffiti spray paint for this build. the shits dope, comes out very thick and is definitly better quality than home depot paint. im hoping it holds up good enough to keep me satisfied on the frame and swingarm.

you dont gotta go crazy with the sandpaper, just enough to scratch up the top layer/clear coat and youll be fine
