if the steel frame has a manufacturing # the bike will need to be inspected and you will get a new title , if the frame doesnt come with a manufacturing # you will get it inspected and it will be titled as a built from parts bike ..Quote:

\nnow there is a little more to it than that but thats the quick explanation , if all the parts except the frame are off a bike that was already registered in your name it\'s pretty straight forward but if lets say your motor is out of a different bike then it gets complicated ..\r\n

\r\n \r\n dmv will issuue a stiker...if a cop rolls to the spot its going to look bad...when u go the bike back u shouldve recived paperwork from the theft squad saying that was ur bike if not go back and ask for it...restanpin or alterin vin is a felony dont get in trouble for not takin some time and going to the dmv or the police stattion to fix the problem\r\n

the first time a bike is registered the bill of lading from the manufacturer is surendered. This document has the vin and engine id on it. Its a FEDERAL REQUIREMENT in all US states, some states send them to records and others file them electronically like florida does. This information is available and out there to be found, just because you had some dumb ass leo who does not know his shit flake out is no supprise. Florida has one of the highest motorcycle theft rates in the nation, and have several highly trained task forces that will get the engine id from a reported stolen bike. 2 of the engines they took were NY,OK vins that had nothing to do with our process. Right cop, in the right place and your gonna loose your shit end of story.\r\n

\r\n \r\n i think i saw like 6 people say go to the dmv with all your records of the bike being stolen and the numbers being ground off and theyd sticker you or rivet a tag on the frame for you. problem solved

\r\n \r\n i bought a bike a few years back and it was a restamped vin. but noone knew. my mechanic, the dealer or the cop that i finally took it to when i found out it didnt match. they ened up running the engine number to find out it was stole. so a good restamp cannot be detected\r\n

If you build frames then you should be registered with your state to get a manufactures ID# to stamp frames, the first numbers in the vin identify the manufacturer which would be you... Twite knows all the info to better explain this\r\n
