how wide are your bars - Duane S. - 10-01-2012

I run thirteen inch clipon bars in my jaco clipons with lil more push to the outside

i was told wider is better. so i have 11" bars on my clips and they 29" across. but i also run my bars in a bit. they not completely straight

To a certain extent, yes. A 34 inch wide bar would be wayyy overkill IMO

thats why i asked the length of each clip on. just wondering whats comfortable for people. the magic number seems to be 30

IMO, it wouldn't much matter if your bars are turned in or not. Your hands are still the distance apart that one prefers.

The way he said it was from tip of one clip on to the other so I was assuming he was wondering how far out people are running their clipons so it would matter cause a guy could have 15in tubes and if they are turned in to almost stock it's gonna be a fucked up measurement see what I mean???

But I now see that he wanted the individual clip on so now it makes sense and no it won't matter if they are turned in or not

Think about it ergonamically here is an example lineman blocks he generally has his hands shoulder width apart because that's where u are gonna get the majority of ur strength they are not generally blocking with their hands together and if they try to block with their hands way out past shoulder width the defense generally gets by because he has no strength so if you set your bars too wide you will have no leverage and won't be usuing core strength to throw the bike around it will be all shoulders and arms......I have seen really tiny dudes try to rock db bars and they have no control because they are so spread out and I know someone is gonna say, " Jorian isn't a big guy and he runs db's" obviously there will be some exceptions but there is some food for thought for those of you that are trying to figure out comfort I would start some close to shoulder width and move accordingly

i thought mine were 29 1/4.they are actually 28 1/4 all the way turned out. each clipon is only 11 1/4.
at the very least i think i'll replace the tubes with some 12" eventually.
these lsl have a drift cut where the clamp bolts. i guess as a safety measure in case the bolts loosen up you don't lose your tube. so i gotta cut a drift in the new tubes so they'll fit in the clamps. lsl never again.

i never thought of it that way.. anyway 30 is about the longest i'd probly go. what do you think would be the drawbacks to running too narrow?

how wide are your bars - kirny - 10-01-2012

^^^^same as too wide......depending on the person having the straight out will give u the same affect if ur doing sit downs and ur arms are fully locked u have no strength at all to move the bike around ur arms need to be bent so u have leverage on the bars.....I tell guys this all the time when I see them struggling with certain things and their answer is fuck that bro I can't ride like that and I just continue to watch them struggle and never give them advice again

how wide are your bars - Nappy - 10-01-2012

I lied... Mine are exactly 31 tip to tip
