\r\n \r\n Looks like your comming along well.
\n
\nThose lock washers/adjusters are a bitch. But thats whats holding the frame tight around the engine. My swingarm was the son of a bitch to get out. Sounds like yours came out easy. Where as, my frame came right off...
\n
\nMake sure you paint that rear coil spring!!! Thats the last part im having powder coated right now... HATE that factory yellow spring.. If you want to take the spring off leave it to a professional. I was told there is something like 150 lbs of gas in that sucker. And is definatly not no "bench vise" project.. So i took it to a bike tech to remove for me and install again after its powder coated.
\n
\nYou could always just spend an hour taping off what you can of the shock to spray the coil... Or just go to town on the whole rear shock haha.\r\n

\r\n \r\n the swingarm was actually a major bitch i couldnt get it out without the honda tool...luckily im cool with one of the honda service dudes so he let me borrow it for a few days. stupid peice of shit is 100 bucks!!...me and my boy might split it 50/50 and just keep it because it made taking the swingarm off a BREEZE...spent like an hour trying to get it off and when i got the tool it was out in 2 minutes. also tried making one out of a socket before i went to the dealer and it didnt work good enough...oh well shit happens.
\n
\nj-stunt what method did you use to get the smaller engine lock adjusters out?...12mm bolt like ryan? just so i dont waste hours trying to figure out an easier way.
\n
\nand yeah i actually didnt think about that rear shock spring at all....definitly not going through the trouble of getting the spring taken off so i might just tape it up and spray bomb it lol!
\n
\n
\ndidnt waste the WHOLE day, was the nicest day of the winter so far so i took advantage and got some parts stripped primed and painted...rims and sub just needs clear coat. cell pics fuck the color up, its a nice turqouise color....will get some more shit painted tommorow

\r\n
you take a bolt with a 12mm head, and put 2 nuts on it, then you tighten those 2 nuts against each other as hard as you can.
\nThen stick the head of the bolt into the motor mount adjuster, and you can use a regular wrench on the inside nut instead of putting vice grips on the shaft.

ny450's f4i 2011 build progress/help thread - ny450 - 02-15-2011

okay so i've been wanting to tear down a bike to the frame for the past 4-5 years that i've been riding street, but never had the balls to actually do it. i have normal mechanic skills and have maintained all of my bikes, but never went past oil changes, plastic swaps, changing tires, etc. so i finally decided nows the time.

ive been plagued with horrible luck after getting my last f4i permanently impounded when i got arrested for wreckless/evading...my NEW f4i has been through a rough time the past few months too...had it pretty fresh full fairing:

until i looped a 45mph jump to spreader and smashed it up pretty good...after 2 months of waiting for parts i finally got it back up and running. since it was winter i decided to keep it streetfighter since id be rockin lots only....first day back to riding, i wrecked it again, as seen at the end of this video: so i said instead of coming into the new year with a clapped out shitbox, im finally going to strip her down to the frame, paint it up nice and fresh, and come out with a new color scheme and hopefully turn my luck around

so the bike was hydrolocked after that mishap^^ after doing the kleen air mod, cleaning the oil out of the throttle bodies, and taking the plugs out and blowing the rest of the oil out she started right up and ran good. i then began the strip down yesterday. i have about an hour's worth of work in so far....its taking longer because im going nice and slow and keeping as organized as possible.

heres some pics of where im at as of now.

throttle bodies when i first took off the airbox after flip:

didnt get any pics of when i blew the cylinders out but a whole shit load of oil blew out lol...made a nice mess

vid of first start...smoke screen

after some strippin today

keeping any free bolts organized the best i can...thanks to r1wonder for the box idea, works awsome. also did my best to label most of the wiring connections i unplugged

picked up some used parts to step my game up..was rockin a 636 master with junction valve so i had to upgrade my h.b....all from classifieds on here: magura 16mm master, hohey dual cal bracket, hel stainless line, extra f4i caliper, round bar, and a new triple/ignition (mine smashed to peices)..spent around $300 total, found some great deals.

also copped a brand new a-town single bar cage to bring in the new season with some fresh protection....big up to slideways/atown for the crazy deal that i couldnt pass up. got home from school today to see it sittin on my doorstep, mocked it up realllly quick and it looks like it fits perfect which is nice to see.

also got another box today...some fresh paint....spray bombin this bitch ftw

ok so heres where the "help" part comes in...as you can see i still got the major parts to strip still....front forks, motor, and swingarm/rear shock are still on....most of the other stuff is already off...entire wire harness is removed as well. my question is: is there any tips from people who have done this before to make the rest of the stripping any easier? ive never taken an engine out so i plan to have a few friends over to help....i didnt look too closely since i only had a short time to work on it today, but i think i remember someone saying i can keep the whole radiator together? is that possible? any tips of best/easiest way to remove engine (do you guys usually drop it out the bottom of the frame?) basically any tips or tricks to make it go smooth would be awsome

thanks alot, all info is appreciated!

p.s. i also made this thread just in case there are some people out there with noob-ish wrenching skills that are wondering if they can do this and need alittle motivation/inspiration....if i can get this done and back together, that means that basically anyone can do this lol!
