Wr250 vs. Crf250
#1
So I am looking into getting a supermoto in the future and checking out parts on 50stunt.

So my question is this. Does one bike work better then the other? From the looks of it most people seem to go for the wr250, is the crf250 not as good?

And if Yamaha is the way to go then is their a certain year area that works best or does an 02 and an 09 work with same exact parts from 50 stunt?

I don't know much about dirtbikes or supermotos so thought I would ask.

The CRF250 street legal version was just released in the US, this year. WR has been around for a while, which equals more parts and availability. The CRF has less power, and is a bit more top-heavy, IMO. I'm a WR fan.

Thanks man, that seems like a straight shot with info.

What about the years? Is there a certain gen that parts fit or is it pretty much universal.

I know right now locally a guy is selling a 2002 wr250 for 2200. So wondering if all parts are interchangeable.

I guess Wr250x. Are there that many differenced between the other versions? I was looking on craigslist and in general doing research and found out there is the wr250f wr250x and wr250r. Seems the X is the commmon one for stunting though.

the wr250x and wr250r are the same bikes overall, one has dirt wheels and different brakes is all. the wr250x is what you want for stunt thats what all the parts are available for, it is a completely different bike and motor than any wr250f and no parts will interchange. the motor in an X is like a sportbike motor it can be riden daily for 30k miles and have no issues and never need to be touched other than general oil changes every 1500-3k miles just like a big bike. wr250f is far less reliable and more like a racebike oil changes and valve checks much more frequently. the wr250x is fuel injected thats why its the best stunter overal as well. lil heavier than the wr250f's but its more like a streetbike. all 250s are underpowered but they are great for learning lot stuff, very smooth its like riding a big 50 just dont expect it to be a 450 or a sportbike and youll love it. gotta keep in mind it does only have 25HP stock and 30 all modded out. but they are by far the most popular motard stuntbike for guys learning. once you learn all you want you will want more power at some point. problem with building a 450 is you have to do all the street legal type stuff to it and the 2012 is the first wr450f to be fuel injected. lot of other guys run carbed bikes but i will not, just my preference.

@MikeM I am from Idaho.

@Stubbz, Thanks for all that info man. THat is very helpful! So then if the R and the X are same bike except for wheels that would also be fine to get and then just swap the wheels with street tires? Or is it also different and X parts won't fit on it?

Well I want to get myself a 250 for lot riding some street riding and just a cool bike to ride around town.

I have an F4i that I stunt on, but wanted to add another toy to the garage.

Question though, I did have a ninja 250 before, is it similar in power to that, at least what to except from it? I am not excepting it to be that strong, just strong enough to do some lot wheelies and maybe some on the road.

Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it! :D

its plenty enough to have a ton of fun in the lot and streets but it is a 250 thats all. the R has a silver frame the X has black but brakes rotors wheel sizes everything is different so just go for an X.

Hey Alex tards are hella fun! If you are looking to build a street tard I'd recommend a 450f, a 250f would also be fun, but you will be limited to small power and torque. the 250f is way light though (older gen and yz). the 250x starts in 2008 and are hard to find in Idaho. you get FI but the bike weighs a ton more. it'll wheelie. but not like a dirtbike. I just got a 426f because I missed my 450. The 250x, is a totally different bike than a 250f (older gen wr and current yz), and way different than a 450f. Hope this helps.
