most reliable 450?
#1
\r\n \r\n KTM, they are expensive for a reason.
\n
\nMy personal dream bike is a street legal wr450, but it unfortunately won\'t be as reliable as the KTM. I\'m actually seriously considering a wr250x because it\'s more reliable than any 450 of any brand.\r\n

\r\n \r\n I have a supermoto built 08 yz450f
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nI spent a total of almost 7k on the build (it all adds up in a hurry) ... street legal, updated suspension, brakes, wheels (obviously), and a few other tidbits ... It is a blast to ride but the maintenance schedule is not fun ... I have only had the cam chain and tensioner go bad so far and luckily I had checked the valves recently so nothing else bad happened.
\r\n
\r\nI\'m looking to race her next year so I am ok with my decision... however if I weren\'t I probably would have gone with something cheaper, already street legal from the factory, and built for street purposes... like a drz, wr250x, or a husky... If you are a big baller though and want something retarded fast... get a husaberg \r\n

\nThe bikes will offer a TIG welded frame with adjustable steering head just like on the official Team Husqvarna machine as well as a shortened, black anodised swingarm to improve traction and manoeuvrability. The one-piece steering plate is made from anodised Ergal and the increased diameter steering pivot is in aluminium.
\n
\nThe RRs will have Alpina tubeless STS rims with a 120/70 x 16.5 tyre at the front and a Dunlop 170/55 x 17 slick at the rear. The brakes are the real news item for this year with a one-piece caliper and pump.
\n
\nThe SM 450 RR and SM 530 RR have "Wave" discs with a 310mm disc up front for a better compromise between adjustability and stopping power. As regards suspension - up front there are 50 mm Marzocchi forks with a sealed cartridge unit and anodised black fork bottoms while, at the rear, there is a Sachs racing aluminium-bodied shock absorber and the frame is painted black.
\n
\nThe more powerful "race" engine is mated to a six-speed box derived from motocross versions as are the STM slipper clutch, the electric starter, the 41 mm Keihin carburettor and the special cams and pistons. In collaboration with Arrow, Husqvarna engineers designed a tailor-made exhaust system for the SM530 RR. Like that on the SM 450 RR, it is made from titanium and features twin silencers. The heat shield is also made from titanium.
\n
\nThe twin-coloured anodised aluminium filler cap is new as are the anodised Ergal racing handlebar clamps. These are one-piece items bearing the legendary Husqvarna name. The motorcycles come supplied with spare sprockets and crown wheels and a set of steering rake sockets as well as a racing type side stand, racing brake and clutch levers and hand guards The machines are not homologated for use on the road and can only be ridden on a track. They will be available from early December through orders made through the Husqvarna sales network.\r\n

\nHeard KTM and Yamaha are one of the best for a reliable setup. KTM is expensive as hell though. And i aint a teen with rich parents. I gotta pay for it. Price range is around $2500-3000 for me. So tell me your guys opinion.
\n
\nWas either thinking WR450 or YZ450F. I heard WR feels like a pig though, but then again its already close to being setup for streets. And thats what I\'m looking for. I\'ve ridden my cousins YZ450 and it had gobs of power! Lots of fun!
\n
\nI\'m stuck on a choice. Anyone murderin the streets on a Kawi 450? Those are nice as hell!

im not feeling all the hate against the honda 450\'s either im starting to get butthurt \r\n

\n450s=not dependable.
\nDo yourself a favor and setup a pumped WR250X.\r\n

\r\n \r\n And for anyone unfamiliar with high strung race 450\'s, regular maintenance = oil change every 3-5 hours of run time, most people replace pistons around 50 hours, valve adjustments every 15 hours...
\nYes, I know there are A LOT of people out there who go much farther on how far they push it, but there are quite a few that rush these schedules down to half of what I just said.
\n
\nEither way, 2 or 3 oil changes a week, and monthly major engine work is too much for me.\r\n

\nLOL, no such thing, 250x is slow as hell.
\n
\nbuild a 2 stroke, my shit will run upside down, LOL.
\n
\nYamaha 450 are supposed to be pretty solid motors. my honda blew up a few years ago and it cost thousands to fix!!\r\n
