\r\n \r\n best way to find out is go in and ask, then tell em to run your background. worst thing that will happen is they say no\r\n

\r\n \r\n true..i live in NY so i know it wont be that easy....i dont think i should have a problem though..i have a clean record..gonna try it on my next day off...are the applications and fees expensive? aside from buying the actual gun\r\n

\r\n \r\n Have to be at least 21 to own a pistol with a federal back ground check. You must have a clean record or else youll get denied. Other than that, go buy one up.\r\n

\r\n \r\n in NY state you must be over 21, NO Felonies, No domestics, you get fingerprinted, interviewed, and you have to give four references that have to sign a notarized letter saying your \'of good moral character\'
\n \nNY City, is a bitch, pretty expensive - I think $450 for all the application fees... and again, in NY City, you\'ll only be able to get a "premise" license - which means you can only have them in your house -OH, if you live at home you\'ll have to have parents permission and/or spouse\'s permission - and occasional trips to the range, BUT YOU CANNOT CARRY CONCEALED - must be in a locked box in the trunk and other rules. \n \n...Outside of NYC residents get a carry license, some restrictions on when & where we can carry... \n \nCheck out LongIslandFirearms.com forums, we have all the info & forms to get you started! \n \nPete\r\n

\r\n \r\n Oh, and once you have your license, buying the gun is another PITA!
\r\n \r\nOnce you find the gun you like, you have to go to 1PP (1 Policd Plaza, NYPD HQ for you non-New York guys) in manhattan to get a "purchase document" - which you then take back to the gun shop... The gun shop can now give you the gun, which you must take to 1PP for inspection, they make sure the gun is NYC legal and the serial numbers are right, and then add it to your license. \r\n \r\nKinda ridiculous... but until we get rid of bloomberg and his cronies we\'re stuck with it. \r\n \r\nAny questions give me a shout! \r\n \r\nPete\r\n

\r\n \r\n Those laws suck. In az you have to be 18 for rifle and 21 for handgun. then you go buy one and you dont even need a concealed permit to carry it.\r\n

\r\n \r\n
\r\n 21 for a handgun is a Federal law, *BUT* that is ONLY to purchase a handgun from a FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee - a gun dealer)Quote: \r\n
\r\n \r\nif you are over 18, you may legally buy a handgun from a private party (friend, relative, guy you met at the range, etc.) As long as your state doesn\'t prohibit it (which I think AZ doesn\'t) \r\n \r\nNY, NJ, CA, have the tightest laws... and notice they also have higher crime rates... \r\n \r\nstates that don\'t restrict the law-abiding citizen from carrying for self-protection have LOWER crime rates in every case.\r\n
