who is in the army? got a few questions

\r\n \r\n why are you joinin exactly? is it college, money problems, kids +family, or any number of reasons? just think long and hard before you make any decisions explore all branches if you feel the military is right for you. make sure you hav olid written job in contract before you go to boot camp. also explore early advancement options. it helps to be in the know on ratings and mos. and another heads up is if a recruiter ask\'s if you ever done drugs say "NO" they canonly test whats in your system at that time. you will save yourself a huge headache and stack of paper work.

i was thinking about joining, my dad was a officer and told me dont go without him b/c recuiters will tell u stuff that isnt true just to get u to join, so go with someone who was previously in the mil. so they wont bs you\r\n

\r\n \r\n my advice is to really look at other options. do you feel your going no where because of personal choices you made in the past that arent allowing you to go foward or what. personally for me i was at that point at about 19 1/2 and i had no idea where i wanted to go with my life. by twenty i said fuck it and joined the navy randomly. i look back now and wish i hadn\'t joined. i have nothing against the military because it has given me alot ie money to get a house, my own vehicles, free college, and some discipline. but i look now and my friends have already graduated from college and moving onto there career\'s when i am still sweeping and swabbing everyday.

\nanother thing to keep in mind if you join any branch is you will sacrifice 1 1/2 years of riding throughout your enlistment maybe more. 2-3.5 months basic traing. and you must assume that you will roughly do two or more deployments or tours that will range from 6-12 months. not to mention anything you do on a street bike on the streets not only will you be held accountable for by civilian law but in my opinion even worse the ucmj.

\ni highly advise as others have said have some sort of mentor other than a recruiter or someone who is friends with or has been a recruiter. also wrtie down why you feel your going no where and how you can change it. also write down your pro\'s and cons of how you will benefit from the military. it is a huge sacrifice and is not nearly as moral boosting as one would think.

if u go to college first you can b an officer. dont have to go through the e ranks (and qualiffy for USAA which is really good and cheap insurance)

\n im not 100% sure but if u goin ROTC in college, the mil. will pay for it so long as you join after for the same amount of time (like if they pay for 4 yrs of college you have to b in the mil for 4 yrs after)\r\n

\n+1 that is what i would have done if i knew better, but at the same time once your an officer they have you by the balls and you are held to somewhat of a higher standard.\r\n

more money, live off base, idk might b worth it for me..something im considering in 4 yrs\r\n
