Cheap kawi frame neck reinforcement
#1
Ight so im in the middle of rebuilding my new 04 636 ive been thinking about this idea, so tell me what you think. Its just using a over the counter expand'a foam that ive used for years at work on quieting corvette roofs. Its pretty tough shit and drys very hard so i just pretty much filled my frame with it. ok anyways heres what i did, tell me if you think its stupid.

First of all i taped off all my holes on the frame..

Then got my expand foam.

Which by the way it using a applying gun, like this.

and then here is where i messed up a little, i shouldve taped off the neck, i had foam shooting out of there after i applied it. so I would tape if off if anyone else does this.

ok then i took my gun and shot the mixture of fluid in threw the holes in the frame right behind the left and right motor mount ears on the inside of frame and then held the frame up with the neck pointing down so it all would go into the neck at first.

After i had all of the fluid shot into the frame i taped off the holes i used to insert the fluid in with and held the frame in all kinds of angles so the foam would move threw out the frame.
ok so heres where i messed up, i had foam coming out of the steering head. which wasnt bad i guess but it made a mess.

so then i took a hold saw and carefully cut a hole threw the steering head for my steering stem to go threw. then just cleaned excess foam up.

this foam expands alot, about 30 times its size, here was about a bottle cap full that i dropped. so you can just imagine the inside of the frame. And this gets ROCK hard like you can smack the shit out of someone with it.

ok so about one tube of that foam will do a frame as long as everythings taped off. i lost some but it was still just enough, it was shooting out of every hole on the frame so it covered everything. i also felt that the frame was warm all over which was from the chemical reacting inside. also its not even that bad to clean up as long as you do it withing the first few mintues before it hardens.
anyways i think this SHOULD make it stronger, and maybe less vibrations too. So ill see how it works out soon.
Also this foam wont melt to heat, i tested that theory already.

the bottle before its mixed is 1.3 lbs. It shouldnt get heavier after it expands, right? That would'nt make sense I think, it would get less denser but the mass would stay the same. Meaning 1lb of chemical should make one pound of foam. I have to reseal a z06 top tonight ill weigh it before and after, it also uses one bottle of this stuff.

on a side note.. just thinking about this.. if the frame still would crack and need welding, doesn't the foam gonna burn up en fuck shit up?
