i still have factory relay and fuses i only added 1 wire and didnt cut any wires (except i cut the plug off the r1 wireing)...pretty simple really

i am stealing power from the headlight harness...hence the added wire routed to my factory plug for the sending unit....i am not running any head light at the moment... and here is another Q, what exactly is considered warmed up...when is it "safe" to ride my bike 160?180? my mind tells me heat is the enemy, the cooler it runs the better EVERYTHING likes it....

if i remove the wire i installed my bike is completly unmolested and stock....

heat can be bad but you have to consider a few things when thinking of heat , heat makes things expand and that is taken into consideration when engines are built ..

i'll keep it simple and focus on one part for the sake of this explanation but know there are many parts that expand when heated ..

your pistons are actually too small in the bore of the cylinder when they are cold and the piston to wall clearance when cold allows some thing called piston slap , it is exactly what it sounds like the piston rocks back and forth in the cylinder when cold but when hot the piston swells and fits better in the cylinder ..

and it has also been found that metal wears less at certain temperatures thats why in the 60's and 70's most cars had 160 degree thermostats but later almost all cars came with 190 degree thermostats and most cooling fans dont even turn on till above 200 degrees ..

ok that makes sence ... but i still believe you will kill your engine much faster by overheating it then you will by running it cooler, my bike generally runs around 180 to 190...i think thats about right, it gets very hot here in the summer and i expect it to be between 200 and 210, that is acceptable to me, i do let it warm up to about 150 before i ride it, but that is all the hotter it will get before i actually ride it...

^^^^ I agree it is necessary to run cooler than hotter. Omr is is right engines are designed to run at a certain temp that's why there's thermostats to keep at right temp. I'm saying having ur fan on as long as ur key is on its taking longer for engine to get to peak performing temp causing it to be at the stressful (warming up) longer. Anyways that's my two cents do what u Will. Just hate to see premature boom LOL anyways ill get back to the build when I get back tomorrow. More pics to Come.
