CBR600RR Stunt Fix Mod (2007-2010)

As some of you who have stunted the new CBR600RR's know, there is a problem with the throttle in wheelies when the speed sensor is connected. Those who have stunted the bikes will simply unplug the speed sensor to resolve the issue. This mod resolves the problem, and removes the 187mph speed restriction on the bike, while allowing the speedometer on the gauge cluster to work.

How To:
We remove, or cut, the pink wire with the teal stripe going to the grey connector of the ECU, this wire is a tap to the speed sensor, once doing this the ECU will no longer know how fast the bike is moving, there are two side effects to this; the bike speed limit restriction is removed, the other is the bike will no longer lean out the fuel mixture in higher speeds, to resolve the issue of the fuel mixture being richer than normal at higher speeds, you could dyno and map your power commander AFTER disconnecting the wire, or you could put a switch on the wire to disconnect it for 'stunt mode', or connect it for 'street mode'.

If you wanted to remove the speed restriction on a bike, This mod will work on virtually any bike, of course you would have to trace out the correct wire going to the ECU. Some bikes the ECU will only monitor the speed sensor wire, and some bikes the ECU will be "in the loop", and will read the signal, and spit it back out to the gauge cluster. For bikes which have an ECU that is only monitoring the signal, you can simply cut or pull the pin out for that wire going to the ECU, for bikes which have the ECU 'in the loop' you can trace out the input and outputs, and disconnect them from the ECU, then jumper them together.

the bike just seams way off, at real low rpms. not smoth at all choppy

the method will work on the 954, though I am not sure what wire it is, you would need to use an ohm meter to measure each lead going to the ecu until you found the wire going to the speed sensor signal line, disconnect the ECU first. what I did was actually inject a frequency into the ecu pins with the ECU removed, using a 1k ohm resistor inline, until I saw a speedo reading popup on the speedo, then I knew I found the correct wire, that same wire measured 0ohm to the speed sensor plug, so I knew the ECU monitor method was tapped and the ECU was not in-line with the signal. If someone brought me a 954 I could have it done in about 10 minutes. Or if you have a service manual, the info is probably in there, actually I think I have a 954 service manual, I'll check it out tonight and see if the info is in there.

the bike would have to be capable of reaching 187 in order to have the restricter programmed in the ecu. no factory 600cc is capable of that speed.

will this work for a 2006 600rr?

will this make the throttle response much smoother? I thought the problem was the center of gravity on the bike was too far forward and that is why it had a tendency to mousetrap.

Maybe an indicated 187. They wouldn't be going near that fast though, it would just be speed sensor error. I have people ask me how fast my bike will go because of the gearing and they almost always respond with something like, "yeah, well i got my GSXR to 170 blah blah blah"

factory speedos come with a 3 to 5 percent error so going an indicated 187 would be a realistic 178ish which is 8 mph faster than the 08 r6 which was the first and still the only 600cc to reach the 170mph mark.

I realize the 600 will not do 187, but the ecu may still have the restriction, I would bet the manufacturer probably put it in there anyway, was just listing what the mod would do, if you did this to a zx14 for example, you could reach 200mph

yes, though the wire location and color may be different, it's possible those bikes may suffer a similar issue the 07's did when the ECU is monitoring the speed during stunting.
