05/06 and 07/08 zx6r rear wheel differences

Ok, so I've been attempting to fit an 08 rear wheel on my 03/04 636 swingarm. Bill from Fullthrottle made me a spacer setup that fit 05/06 wheels for his latest setup, which is when I started to find out that the 07/08 where in fact different wheels.

So far I've learned that:
07/08 wheel hub is 2mm wider on the right hand side than 05/06 wheels. I guessed this because the 05/06 brake side wheel spacer is a 18mm, and the 07/08 is a 16mm. This could mean that the swingarms are a different dimensions, but I took a chance and took 2mm off the spacer and everything fit perfect on the brake side.

03/04 and 05/06 have the same cush drive part #, 07/08 uses a different cush drive (03-06 mounts, not sure if there is a difference in the thickness, I tossed my 07/08 hub as the bearings where bad and it looked the same as the 3 other 03-06 hubs had laying around).

So this is where I'm currently at. When I put on my 08 wheel with 03/04 cush drive and spacer, I have a few mm gap on the left side that goes away when I tighten everything down a bit. I know this won't affect me much, but I want to figure out exactly why I have this gap.

What's left to figure out is if there are any differences in the wheel hub on the sprocket side between the 05/06 and 07/08 and also, what the difference is between the 03-06 and 07/08 cush drives. If anyone has any information I'd greatly appreciate it.

Edit: Also, I realize some people may have mounted 07/08 wheels with some setups just fine. Most setups with a Nissin front caliper for the hb and stock rear caliper have a lot of room for slop. The Brembo caliper I'm using for my footbrake I believe has 6mm of clearance pad to pad, with a 5.5mm rotor stuck in between them, so there isn't much room for slop.

well i took 09 wheels and put them on my 05 without a prob. i just used the 05 spacers for the 09 wheels. everything lines up. thought they were all the same from 05-10 zx

The spacer kit Bill sent me he supposedly lined up and test fitted and it worked perfect on an 05 wheel, but didn't at all work for me with my 08 wheel. After I took off the 2mm on the spacer everything lined up smooth on the brake side. So unless he lied about test fitting (which I doubt he would do), it seems there is a difference. Also, it would be quite a coincidence that the 2mm difference in the spacers just so happened make everything line up perfect.

Also, like I said, I mounted my 08 wheel just fine with my stock rear caliper because it has so much room for slop. It's just when I started to mount the Brembo which has no room for error that I started having problems.

I grabbed an 05 wheel today and put my brake side spacer, handbrake bracket and axle on, then went to put on the caliper, no go, the spacer is too short. It fits perfect on my 08 wheel. I had both wheels laying and wanted to measure the length of the wheel hub, but my calipers were too short. I am almost positive that they are NOT the same exact wheel (at least, the brake side of the hub appears to be 2mm longer on the 07/08). If they were the same wheel, the bracket would have fit just the same for the 05 wheel (I also double checked the bearings in both wheels, they are seated properly).

What type of calipers were you running? This 2mm of difference will not be noticeable with a stock rear caliper or one of those 4 piston Nissins. They have a crapload of slop in them and the caliper's pistons will seat themselves properly regardless if the rotor is centered.

To repeat, I only noticed this because I'm running a Brembo 2 piston rear caliper for my footbrake and I believe from pad to pad it's 6mm and I have a 5.5mm thick rotor in it. For me, the 2mm was raining on my parade. For a stock caliper that has like 15mm of space between pads, it won't matter but your wheel will be a bit offset.

Sometime this week I will take the wheel of my street bike and see how tightly the stock spacers fit to see if perhaps I'm just being too anal about this remaining gap on my sprocket side. If they fit tighter than my current setup does I'll pick up an 07/08 hub and take some measurements on it vs the 03-06 hub. Perhaps the 07/08 comes with a thicker hub.
