powdercoat prep ??'s plug kit,etc..

getting ready to powder my frame/subframe/wheels...any tips on prepping/plugging my stuff before i drop it off?? like where would i get a "plug kit" for my holes/threads?? or will the PC place have/do that for me????? anybody??? thanks in advance for any info

Here is the process.

1. remove parts from bike, remove any nuts/bolts/bearings and any moving parts.
2. degrease everything really well
3. sandblast parts, to get everything down to bare metal
4. use acetone or denatured alcohol to prep metal
5. use silicon plugs to plug off any holes, threads or bearing races
6. bake metal to temp to outgas metal and get oils off metal from hands or prepwork
7. use hi temp tape to cover anything you dont want coated -powdercoat items
8. bake powder to scheduled temp/time
9. apply clear and bake again orelse its done if no clear is needed.

You can get powdercoating supplies just about anywhere.
example: harbor freight...
The place you take it to get coated will probably have the silicon plugs and hi temp tape.
Have them cover your vin with hi temp tape before they coat it as well.

good info bro thanks...not really clear on taping the vin tho....the actual vin or the kawi tag riveted onto my frame?? so the vin will get covered if you dont?whats that end up looking like when its powdered?? so try harbor frieght for the silicon plugs and high temp. tape??

if you put tape over that tag that is rivited to the frame, when you go to take the tape off will you even be able to get it? wont the hard coat be holding the tape down, and if you do get it, then will it chip the coat? same question for holes and nuts welded to the frame

oh and what about the castle nut thingys at the right front motor mount and rear right motor mounts?? i just tried to remove those and they dont thread out it looks like (03-04 636)???those stay on and you just mask with hi temp tape?? damn...this PC coat shit is a pain in my asspaint is sooo much easier but i want the strength of PC

pretty much cover everything that needs a close tolerance to fit back together.. ect..

i would just coat over the vin and everything..
i did it to mine awhile ago and it was still readable
