wtb 03/04 636 cylinder heads
#1
I need 2 cylinder heads for the 03/04 646. Maybe somone's got a bad lower end but a good head out there? Must have the Stamp next to the coolant temp sensor K-1 Here is a pic of what the stamp looks like. Heads needs to be good, no bent valves.
I got 2 motors that would like to be alive again but are headless

What does one of these go for?

I got a spare motor now but have never taken the top head off, so I dont know the condition of it. I can check if you would like... But shiping this might be a little pricey as I am in Canada.

Let me know, Ill post pics if you are interested.

It depends. I am looking at one for 50 bucks+ shipping. on ebay now, But it does not have cam cap plate. I have been told its very important to use the original cams and cap plate that came with the head. They are machined differently and can't be interchanged. Maybe the info I was told is wrong. I know the service manual mentions something about it.

I just found a complete one for 120 shipped. Will prolly grab this one if its the right one. But I need to So if you got one that you don't need I will grab it. If you never took off a head before I could send you directions. You must loosen cam cap bolts in correct sequence to avoid cracking the weak cast plate.

No I have never taken a motor apart... Im scared as it is having to swap over oil pan, stator and clutch... lol

If you could send the directions that would be great, but if its over my head.. maybe ill leave it alone till I get someone over here that knows what they are doing so I dont break anything.

sweet, Is it the K1 stamped head like I need? I can prolly email you the pdf file with the whole service manual. Or just print the head removal intructions and mail it to you. You can do it with basic tools. Only thing you need to be really carefully is to take the camshaft cap bolts of in a certain sequence so the cap dosen't break, its cheap cast alloy and snaps easy. I might not be around a computer for a few days but stay in touch.

already replied to your pm kev I just read your post. Now i'm confused as fuck. I use to be a real asshole with the rev limiter, use to think the 636 was a 900rr. I blew like 5 motors up, so I have these 2 blocks that are good, I have one head that is cracked but It came off one of the blocks. I found another head in my pile of shit but it is stamped k-2. ok listen to this.

Both of the blocks are 636 blocks. When I bolt the original k-1 head on(with no cams in wich allows all the valves to be closed) the crankshaft spins freely by hand. When I bolt the k-2 head on (again with no cams in) the motor rotates 180 degrees maybe and locks up in both directions. If I just lay the head on there and use no bolts the crankshaft turns but when it hits the spot where it gets stuck it lifts the head right off the block. This tells me the pistons are hitting the head somehow. I tried both heads on both blocks... same issue. I examined both the k-1 and k-2 heads they look identical. Maybe my k-2 head is just warped to shit and I cant tell by looking at it. I need to put a straigh edge on it an check with a feeler gauge.
Ive been a mechanic for 10 years and this shit is kicking my ass.

Not sure but i talked to two different kawasaki shops they said there is no difference also the head i have is still bolted to the motor so i know it works. I blew 2nd gear out of this bike so top end is all good.
