About a week ago I noticed my kawi making a strange whirring/whining noise around 4-8k rpms. It does it while rolling and while in neutral, with the clutch in and with the clutch out. I'm still trying to pin point where it's coming from, but I was curious if anyone on here has heard this noise before or has any ideas on what it could be? It almost sounds to me like it's louder on the shifter side but it's hard to tell.

At this point I'm thinking it could be a vacuum leak somewhere, something with the timing chain, something in the head, the stator maybe, or a bearing inside the tranny. Any help would be much appreciated as I want to get this fixed and get back to riding asap! Thanks!

cam chain tensioner? my 0304 does it, my f4i did it.....probably a loose cam chain and you need to pic up an APE manual cam chain tensioner. Not 100% sure with the 09 though

Last few rides for sure noticed it.. Think my buddy was kept revving his bike and listening to it thinking it was him. Hasn't gotten worse but havnt really done a thorough look through of the bike since noticing it. Maybe something loose or cam chain...

Still haven't been able to pin point noise other than I ruled out a vacuum leak. I used the screwdriver to ear method and I thought the noise was loudest on the stator cover, my roomate thought it was louder on the other side of the engine though. So it's not notably louder anywhere on the engine. But after reading and comparing the noise to the vid in this post (http://www.kawiforums.com/2009-2012-...09-making.html), I'm leaning towards a fucked up stator. Going to do some voltage tests with it tomorrow and see how it looks.

I ruled out vacuum leak it's something inside the motor. Lol I had to put my stock pipe on so I could ride in my lot and not piss people off and get kicked out from the noise
