FYI, the clean air mod info in this thread is incorrect...the mod does not recirculate the oil back into the bike and the purpose is different than explained.
It is done so that when the bike is dropped on it's side or wheelied behind the balance point the oil will go out the exhaust rather than into the airbox. From the factory, the engine crankcase is vented to the air intake box as well as the exhaust valves. If you drop your bike on its side a lot like stunt riders do, the oil will run up into the air intake box and fill your #1 cylinder causing the engine to hydrolock. Oil does not compress and can cause a bent a rod, etc. With this mod, you plug off the holes in the airbox and run the crankcase breather hose directly to where the exhaust valve is and replace it with a tee and then any excess oil will just blow out your exhaust. This mod keeps hot oily air out of your intake. A cooler charge is always going to be better for performance. and it actually causes a vacuum in the crankcase which is also beneficial for performance.

thats pretty much same way it was explained other than he said to recirculate into the engine which i didnt think was correct but wasnt sure. same ideas as any bike really

Well i read what nate had to say and we discussed the whole idea behind the clean air mod.
I had always thought that the valve bodies ontop of the Valve Cover just vented back into the cylinder head recirculating the oil. But, I stand corrected. He sent me a picture that ease's my curiostity as to how in the hell it gets into the exhaust port. And the pictures below explain...i think lol. |
