Title says it. The bolts that were with my new sick cage stripped the f outa my engine mounts. Not blaming sick, just need it fixed. They seemed to go in smooth, didn't tighten much, then they just spin, and on closer inspection are definitely stripped. I've never used helicos or taps, but now I need to learn. Do I need to drop the engine to tap or helicoil or timesert this thing? Both side of the bike r stripped (I know I know, flame me). Can I fix it without dropping the engine, and what parts should I get tomorrow at... Autozone, lowes, napa? Help me out!

are you talking about the top front mountings just under the exhaut headers? if so just put a longer bolt in and put a nut on

I did the same thing last year. I used timesert because its a lot stronger then helicoil. I had to drop the motor to install the timesert.

The left side motor mount you can just put a nut behind the bolt. Gunna be a bit of a hassle but if you just play with it a bit you'll get it eventually.

Left side got a nut on the end now, right side had some threads left and a longer bolt was able to grab the correctly. Guess if I still need the helicoil the left side it won't be too hard because all I will have to do is take out the castlenut thing and there will be plenty of room for drilling and tapping. Thanks for tip on longer bolt and a nut

I bought a F4i that mostly came in boxes. Once I got to installing the cage, found out that JB weld was the only threads the motor mounts had lol.
I dropped the motor down a bit so that I could drill and tap the holes easier. I figured if I tried to do it in place I would fuck more stuff up. Took some time but in the end it was well worth it!

i always helicoil mine even if there stripped or not, ive always done it when the motors out though. either way helicoil or timesert its gonna be stroner then the stock threads if u do it right, never had a heli rip out

your gonna want to drop it, don't think an insert will pass through the frame.
i've helicoiled my last couple motors before installing them. Going with imperial thread instead of metric will let you get new bolts at homedepot/lowes instead of making a run to fastenal... (i've never had luck getting 10x1.25 bolts in the correct lengths from the box stores)
3/8" -24 is what I use and have also never had any issues with helicoils
-ps. if you can't put a helicoil in correctly, you'll definitely fuck things up trying to install a timesert
