Just got my first 50 - few questions

I finally picked up a fifty because I found a good deal on it. It's kind of a Frankenstein bike with a whole bunch of parts from different manufacturers. I've fixed all the small things, but I have a few that have me scratching my head.

I'm going to have to do a top end rebuild because it's smoking a little bit. It's got an 88 kit, but I dont know how to identify the manufacturer. Does it even matter, or can I just buy any piston/rings for the rebuild?? I'm pretty sure it's a stock head, but I'm not even sure of that either..

One more problem. The front wheel is disc, but the caliper broke off along with the mounting tab that connected to the left fork. I was given the caliper, line, and master when I bought the bike... But I have a feeling it is impossible to repair. Any suggestions?

For the disk brake I have no clue honestly. But for the 88 kit go get the TB 88 kit. It comes with a new cylinder piston and rings. If your gonna do it mine as well push a lil more money out and do it right. Just my input.

Thanks for the input 50stunt, but I just want to find a piston and rings from takegawa, not a new cylinder too.

Yeah no problem. And I know what your saying but idk the price may be near the same and if it is, you might as well do it all new but I get where your coming from. Good luck with the bike!

Yeah, i gotcha. I was told I couldn't run a TB piston/rings in a takegawa cylinder. Is that true?

Ummm I'm not sure they are both an 88 kit but they may be a few mm off so that would have to be something to call up tb and ask them. But if they say no and you can't find any takigawa pistons and rings for it just order the TB kit with the cylinder and piston and all that. Its probably not that much more. Plus then you would have all fresh new stuff. Just a thought.

good point, finally found takegawa rings and piston and it was 150 which is as much as a stg I TB 88 kit.
