Recording from a broadcast for later viewing is you viewing something that you had the right to view. Downloading a song that you have no right to own is stealing. As far as your bike, you cannot compare a physical object to copyrighted material that is easy to duplicate.

No matter how people try to justify it, downloading music is stealing. If they are ok with that then there's nothing I can say that will change what they do. Don't try to sell me bullshit excuses though. Just admit you're stealing.

please do explain how you taking intellectual property by recording it without permission from the artist or the company isn't stealing too. just because it already aired and you saving it for a later date doesn't make it anymore legal. the only difference is, thats how people did it before the internet was going. ever stick a tape in old stereo while the radio was going? you know so you could record your favorite song as a kid?

The difference is the owner of that intellectual property allows you to record it for later. I haven't seen anybody come out against the DVR. Its entire purpose is to do just that.

if the artist allowed you to do that there would be something before it aired stating that it was legal to record it, just because they aren't cracking down on that doesn't mean its legal. but if what your saying is true then since they make cd and dvd burners then it should be the same way right? just because someone makes a product that makes it easier to record something doesn't make it legal.

The sole purpose of a dvr is recording a show to watch it later. There are other (legal) uses for cd and dvd burners. Even if what you are saying did make sense, two wrongs do not make a right.

Recording on your vcr or dvr is for personal consumption. Using a cd/dvd burner to make copies of your own shit is for personal comsumption. You had the right to have it in the first place either you paid for the original or you paid for the service that was broadcasting it.

If you then take said recording and start selling them on the corner or passing them out to your home boys or everybody and their mom on the internet. That IS stealing.

If you can't see that, i hope you never open a business. Because youre fucked.
