gas cap leaking?
#1
What are you guys using for gas caps? I rode my 2012 KX450F SM for the first time today and had 2 problems...One was the oil breather spitting out oil after wheelies, but thats a simple fix I knew I was going to need a catch can for it...

The other is my gas cap, leaking like crazy after wheelies or stoppies...I hate gas balls... So what are you guys using for a gas cap? I dont even think it was coming out of the breather, it seems like it was out around the nipple in the cap that the breather is on....

for the inside i cut a cork gasket and glued it to the inside ring(where the rubber on the cap seats).
on the outside it was leaking at the seam and around the cap and i use seal-all. it works good but it tends to harden up in the sun so just peel it off and reapply every month or so. only takes a minute
some people like the aftermarket caps, others say they don't vent.

Cool I am looking into some billet gas caps, but would like any suggestions anyone has on a specific brand that does not leak? Just dont want to buy one and find out it also leaks...

I ride my moto bike almost daily and have not had a problem. You may have at one time swapped for a non Kawi gas cap or lost the rubber top hat that goes inside sometimes. Is there a rubber cap or ring in the cap or is it plastic to plastic?

Bike is a brand new 2012, I bought it in the crate and opened it myself...So there is no way the cap has been switched. And regardless there is a rubber seal in the cap and its not leaking from there anyways...The only thing that has been swapped is the OEM breather tube, I have a Zeta one on there with a one way valve...It seems to either be coming out of the breather valve, or at the base of the nipple...When I am in a wheelie and I look at the cap, it seems to be spewing out of the base around the nipple that the hose is on...It doesn't appear to be leaking out of the one way valve...

So I am looking into a cap/breather valve combo that is known to work well....I would just buy a Zeta blue cap because I have alot of Zeta blue parts on my bike already, but if its the Zeta breather that is actually allowing the fuel to come out...Then I dont want to waste my money as a Zeta cap will come with the same breather I already have...

Tomorrow I will try using the OEM breather tube, but I still want an aftermarket billet cap/breather combo, so if anyone has any suggestions on ones that work Id like to hear em...Thanks

Okay that makes sense. The OEM breather should be just fine. It will leak gas on the back of the front fender through the neck if it is super full but no other problems!

On a side note do you make a stay for a 09 or newer Kawi 6?

Yes Im going to put it back and add an inline one way valve to try to minimize the gas dripping on the fender... If possible Id like to eliminate as much leaking as possible

Currently I have not designed a stay for the 09+, even thou I own one Ive got a little more riding to do before my country freezes over again...Then I will be doing it for sure...A friend of mine used some of the parts from the 05/06 and 07/08 stays and turned them into an 09+ stay, but it will only work with race upper as there is no mounts for a headlight...It works but I would prefer to design a bike specific one, with all mounts...

Since I cut out the splash shield in my r6 tank it has been leaking from what I think is the base of the cap, and its bothering me. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop that, like put something under the stock gas cap base or maybe a vortex gas cap?
