wal mart, Bass Pro, Academy, Gander Mountain would be on my list to go through for supplies. also a dependable 4x4 truck lifted with grill guard for the road.

1. Everybody in the america's first thought is going to be, "Hey, let's go to wal-mart/bass pro/academy etc. etc. so we can stock up on guns, ammo, and food! then we can chill on the roof and snipe bitches all day!" It may sound like a grand idea, until you realize that everyone else is there. More people = more opportunity for confusion/conflict amongst survivors. Your best bet is to stockpile before the apocalypse so you can move away from urban environments while everyone else is rushing towards them.
2. Vehicles are going to be difficult to maintain in a world where everything gets shut down. Traffic will back up on most major highways to a standstill where people will eventually abandon their cars causing extreme clogging issues. Another point of interest being fuel. I'm sure you don't want to siphon every drop of fuel you want to use, and electricity/fuel pumps will probably be shut off in many areas for any of a hundred reasons. I would either invest (or find) a good mountain bike with a pull behind trailer like some people use to pull their kids. Not only does it serve to move you around, but it keeps you in shape as well.
as previously mentioned, rule #1: cardio.
