$1200 ticket for improperly mounted plate...
#1
Yeah... Bad news first I guess, so I got a ticket yesterday for my license plate being mounted vertically instead of horizontally. The total of said ticket is $1160. I have an out of state license, license plate, registration, and insurance, but I'm living in florida.

Good news is, I never actually broke the law. The retarded officer who wrote the ticket tried to tell me, in his macho matter-of-fact attitude that it was illegal in louisiana to have my plate mounted vertically. So I did a little bit of research. Not only is it legal to have my plate mounted vertically in LA, but I can even do it in FL if i have a prepaid toll account! Which I do have of course.

Check it out, here's the LA law about plate mounting:
http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=102303

And here's the FL law about plate mounting. Read paragraph 3 specifically:
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/...0316.2085.html

I'm fighting this one to the end, because according to everything I've found, I've broken no law. Not to mention having a $1200 fine on improperly mounted tags when running a red light is only $262 is bullshit. The fine for my 'infraction' is completely unreasonable.

Some laws make no sense, its like $1,000 dollar to go over 100mph in CA and they are going to get you for more just for having a vertical plate?!?! This would be outrageous if you don't win fighting this one, good luck.

Thanks man, I'm probably going to need it. Though I hope I'll be given enough time to present my case, now all I have to do is request a court date so I can actually go.

when the wheelie law was written the tag law was written under the same statue as a kind of sub statue so the fine was the same as a wheelie fine but i thought i seen on the news recently that the tag law was rewritten and no longer included in the wheelie law
