I used probably a half a tube of seal all on my base and its good. It will leak a little bit if the tank is really full.

I've tried a bunch of ways over the years with the vortex too.. Some leaked more than others. Because of the dent it ends up slightly warping the inner lip of the tank the rubber vortex piece is trying to seal to.

I used the black gasket maker alllll filled in under the cap area, didn't have a breather problem, and havn't leaked a drop in over 6mo now.

ive done the quicksteeal and jbweld over that trick before, worked awesome. my cap didnt leak it had a hairline crack around the base of the gas tank and made it seem like the cap leaked....

Hahhaha im too embarrased to post a pic of what i did.. I took poop brown sealer thats good for gas and gave it a nice gob around the lip of the vortex base, then a goop at that ball, becuse i didnt have the right tiny allen key for the little bolt so i stripped the cunt.. So i flipped it over and stripped the bottom one too for good measure. I put it on and could see a nice even goop smear on the inside of the hole where the gas goes. so i wiped off the rest and pressed it so it seals just nice.. Thenn went and sealed the outter rim of the base around the tank as well so there is no way it leaks now. And if it does ill go take a fuckin shotgun to it and go buy an ebay tank.

Shotgun slug will do it.. But i might just drill a tiny hole closer to the vent for the tank. The ball thing is on the right of the cap, but the whole for my overflow/vent is on the left. I knew you said earlier that if you dont take the ball out, your "seal " will fail.. i didnt want to fail.. So i took drastic action.
