\r\n \r\n hey stretch have you had any luck removing the fan clutch on an e46 without the special water pump holding tool. I have tried a few auto stores and none have it for sale or as a loaner tool. I was thinking about hitting the wrench quick with a rubber mallet like I have seen one person do online, but wanted to know if you know another way or could it possibly mess up the waterpump shaft doing it like that.\r\n

\n \nand it wont mess anything up unless of course the hammer flys out your hand...then thats another story haha. \n \ngood luck....Hold it still with one tool...hit the wrench with the hammer\r\n

\r\n \r\n I have had tons of BMWs, they are great cars, but there is a learning curve, just like jumping to any different brand. Change your control arms and your bushings, and CHANGE THE COOLING SYSTEM!!!! That is what will kill it if anything will.
\n \nI think by 02\' they had most of the eGremlins worked out. \nMake sure you stay up on changing your trans/transfer case fluid too. The transfer cases go on those and they are not cheap, and they are a bit of a PITA to fix, especially if you are not familiar and do it all the time, like !!!stretch!!! . \nI have a 2000 328 Coupe as my daily. I love it. But they do have a more ambitous maintenance schedule than a lot of other cars.\r\n

\r\n \r\n ^ I wouldn\'t think twice about picking it up if the price is right. If I could do anything different I would have kept searching for a manual transmission. While the automatic trans is so nice for cruising around the manual clutch fan just makes changing everything an extra step and then worry about the auto trans crapping out.
\n \nOn another note I figured out that groaning noise is the ac compressor going bad. Just gonna deal with it until I can find a cheap used one on ebay. Also might just pull the belt to it since its winter anyways.\r\n

\r\n \r\n i literally just turned down the 11 335xi and picked up a new silverado.. hard to justify a 700 car payment when then dont make it in a 6 speed anymore. which imo takes all the fun out of a biturbo\'d car.
