I was going to say.... I would have figured at bare minimum you would have needed a Federal Firearms License, which includes an extensive backgound search. Nice to have all the specifics on hand now to see what\'s up. Thanks Jwik! Are those solely the federal requirements, or might there be add\'l state requirements over and above what you stated (varying by location of course)?

\nEdit: For all you gun aficionados (I\'m not much of an expert at all).... what is a subsonic load? Just a round where the casing is filled with less powder before pressing in the slug in order to keep the projectile speed below the speed of sound? Or is it a special type of slug in the casing as well?\r\n

I wanna say its a class 2 FFL. Costs around $200. Downside is you have to register everything & they must know where you store your weapons.\r\n

\nThere are certain states where you can own suppressors but you have to be atleast a class II FFL dealer.
\nAs far as the the subsonic load goes it usually has about the same amount of powder or a little less but the weight in grains of the bullet is usually substantially more thus slowing the bullet down below the speed of sound and eliminating the ballistic crack of breaking the sound barrier.
\nIf you want a good example of this order a pack of aguila 60 grain .22 LR rounds very quiet stuff even in non suspressed .22\'s you could shoot them in your basement without hearing protection.\r\n
