If you can't afford suspension tuning.. Then it's hard to say exactly how to dial in a bike because weight diffrences in riders and bikes and riding style.
Myself, coming from dirtbikes I prefer the more controlled feel. Some prefer the fork to slam down to bottom and ride basically on the bumpstop. (fully compressed)
The worst thing is there's do many people with improperly turned suspension and people who get bad advice of adding thick weight fluids and the like.
so u are sayin u get the shims adjusted so the front will drop kinda fast at first to transfer the weight then step down from there for better control
now when it comes to the rebound does that really come into play once u have the forks compressed
