\r\n \r\n the alternator on that truck has an internal regulator. the only thing you need for it to charge is power going to one of the wires at the plug in on top. when you turn the switch on it should send power to one of these wires which energizes the field to start charging. when i install one of these alternators on older cars i just run a jumper from from the charge lug on the back of the alternator to the field side of the plug on top. if you have power going in the plug and it is not charging with the engine running then the alternator is bad. new stands for Never Ever Works.
