Yea in the day this was the best way to tune an exhaust rather than fuck'n with the carburetor jets. To decrese the back pressure,(lean your motor out) you would add rings. To increase the back pressure, (richen up the fuel to air mix) you would take disc out.

They have a patent on this method I believe because I have never seen any exhaust use this method and it's easy as hell to adjust.

On a stock CRF 50 exhaust there are 3 allen bolts in the back of the pipe. To tune the stock exhaust you get a few small washers and stick them between the spark arrester and the pipe thus decreasing your back pressure.
