Don't know about the KLX specifically, but dirtbikes in general are pretty easy to do basic stuff on right out of the box. I would say start with sitdowns and once you're good at anything you can think of with your foot on the brake, then see if you can rig up a hand brake. Other than that, just ride it and have fun!
