I'm the opposite. I replace everything(almost) w/ stainless. It's plenty strong.(although not as strong as some alternate materials, as professor Rodney mentioned above
)
I've been known to over tighten bolts and strip threads....religiously....since I was a boy. I very RARELY have any issues w/ the allen head on stainless bolts. I've seen SOOOOO many people strip allen heads from using the wrong size wrench. It's much more common than with hex head bolts. Too many people try to use standard allen wrenches w/ metric bolts.....happens all too often.
With moto parts, a majority of what is being secured....is aluminum. I prefer to bend a stainless bolt, before I bend the part it secures. With that being said, I like to use stainless hardware in most situations where an aluminum part is being secured. If you're bolting down a moto part that is Grade 8 material, or similar....then I'd use Grade 8 hardware.
Stainless is somewhat soft, as Rodney mentioned....but that can be a good thing. Just use the correct size wrench!
The Righteous Sub-Cage is designed w/ these ideas in mind. It is engineered so that the stainless bolts will bend before the aluminum, in most cases. If one were to replace the hardware in the Righteous Sub-Cage w/ Grade 8 hardware, there would be a decent chance that in a huge impact......an aluminum part may bend before the hardware. This would not be efficient, and would also void the warranty on the billet parts of the Sub-Cage.
