Id say That depends. for me when i started out working on it was half the fun, and still is. also if your new it helps to learn the insides and out of your bike as you build it and knowing what you've done to it instead of having to worry about the person you bought a bike from already having done something wrong.

edit: i missed the word "wallet" when i first read it. definitely right on that. you just miss out on the learning experience
