I wouldnt worry about the approach distance yet, id b more concerned learning how to pick up at higher speeds like Daliks said 3rd-4th gear, and cut the approach down later.
Id also suggest a calm day and yes crank that stabalizer up! I use mine as stiff as it will get when goin for distance.
Id also suggest wearing all the gear you got.
Your best bet would be ride in front of someone that can do what you want to do, they can pick out your mistakes and give you tips youll never get on a computer. Take Da Liks up on that offer, or find someone else over there that can roll.
