At long last, I'm ready to start my progress thread!
My two wheeled experience is maybe 30 or less hours on a dirtbike since I got it at the beginning of last year. and less than 5 hours street riding on my 636 since I got it a few months ago. I have also screwed around on a 50 for a few hours.
I'm still getting used to the sheer weight of the bike compared to my dirtbike. I almost fell over at the end of the video!
I feel a little cramped, but I'm 6'2" so I guess I had better get used to it!
I was having some trouble at first getting the front up. I didn't realize just how high RMP I needed. At first I was trying to clutch up at 3-4k and going nowhere fast... Towards the end I was running around 7-8k and getting better results. I hate to blame the bike but I'm thinking the stock gearing isn't helping... I still want to ride streets though. I think stock is 43 in the rear, so What about a 45 or 47 or even 50? I want to to get it as low as possible and still be able to comfortably hit say 80 or 90... or maybe 100, that's a good number
I was trying hard to resist the urge to chase them out and only focus on clutching up and catching idle from slow speeds. At the end I was finally holding them for a few feet, still hunting for idle but I think I'm getting close... I felt like I was really pounding the front end on some of my landings, hopefully I can get a little gentler before I blow my fork seals!
