I agree those are some ugly welds, but that doesnt mean they arent strong. It looks like its got penetration, of course we cant tell for sure since its been powdered. A weak weld would look like a bunch of little boogers

In mild steel, mig will be stronger than tig.

What extra work? Cleaning up the metal before you weld it? Should be doing that anyway.\r\n
