water is the best way to trasfer heat in a normal coolingsystem. but the only thing is corrosion on long therm. so what you can do is use pure water and add 2-5% sewing-machine oil. that solves the corrosion problem. thats the cheapest way. if you need waterwetter or engine ice, than its way better to use extra fan or heat tape your header so you aint got as much heat going into the cooler.
only be aware when it comes to freezing.. you will have so much damage if shits freezes.
