are you saying that the next step up there from your 220 pulsar would be a liter bike? can you not get a 400cc or 500 or maybe even a 600cc bike? but anyways a 220 if fine i think for starters because right now im just learning on a xr50 to transfer over to my f4i....instead of only bringing bike up to balance point and jabbing the brake i found that playing with throttle is much nicer with a less powerful bike, not exactly sure if that transfers to my f4i but on my 50 today i just brought it to bp and let off throttle a bit and gave it gas to maintain bp i used rear brake mostly to slow to a standstill before popping it up and every now and then would give brake while wheeling....i think its just a sense of feel and maybe everyone even develops their own way of riding....definately seat time will develop it...spent 4 hours today and went from 3 foot wheelies to being able to hold it at bp for about 8 parking spots so about 50-60 feet until i would lose it and have to put it down....give it more time!!
