Oil

So my Honda Fit has 79000 miles and is due for an oil change. I ordered fully synthetic Mobil 1 High Mileage oil and a Mobil one filter because someone recommended Mobil 1; but is it really that much better? Price was sure higher lol

Also, he recommended putting Seafoam into the oil and letting the car idle for about 5 minutes before the oil change to knock out sludge. Anyone have success with this? Sounds risky

Cars are not like bikes... you can switch from conventional to synthetic and back and forth as much as you want...

Unless the vehicle requires synthetic obviously.

you still shouldnt, a motor is a motor there not much different, thats not a smart thing to do or say imo

Not true....you can go from a full synthetic to a blend or regular oil to a blend and go back and forth but not a full synthetic to regular...but the reality is and the best thing to do is when you have full synthetic you stick with it...

Idk how in the world you think theres that much differance between bike motors and car motors but they pretty much are the samething

IMO the "you have to stick with synthetic" is just to get people to spend more money. There is no reason you can't switch back to conventional oil as long as it didn't come from the factory w/ synthetic. Synthetic won't break down as fast as conventional oil so you get longer life. BMW recomends 15k mile oil changes and they put synthetic from the factory. Would I wait 15k to change the oil no but they do that because when they sell a car or lease it it comes with free factory maintenence oil changes so this saves them a ton of money.

You won't hurt anything... I work for a Chevy dealer and watch people do it all the time... no harm.. the only issue is with the clutch.. in a bike its all in the same cases/oil. So switching back and forth in a bike will harm the clutch or cause it to slip.

You can switch back and forth from conventional to synthetic in a bike if you would like as well. If you couldn't there wouldn't be a thing as semi synthetic. With the bikes wet clutch you don't want to run car oil because it doesn't have addatives for the plates like motorcycle oil does. However there are people on here who use car oil and don't seem to have any problems

i totally agree. my bro used car oil regularly on his katana back in the day and had to rebuild the trans twice. may have just been the katana though..lol
but ya . regular car oil is not meant for a bike imo

So you can read on this issue for days and everything says switching from regular to full synthetic is bad for your motor...i should just ignore all of those articals? Plus had a bike that ran synthetic in it and threw regular oil in it and with in a week the motor was garbage and thats just a quinky dink right? Even though i didnt do anything different except the oil change to the bike, didnt knock, rattle, or even tick....oh and my uncle and cousin both own a shop both are certified and they tell me its not advisable to do so...i guess they are just bullshitting me too
