Remington 700's

I have a 700 SPS short action in .223 and been looking to replace the stock or go with a chassis system. from the little research I've done, it seems most of the chassis systems add considerable weight. the XLR Evolution chassis looks to be the most cost effective, and visually appealing imo. I don't really want to go with a magazine though. anyone have any experience with 700's and different stocks??

decided to stay away from the chassis system type stocks. they add more weight than I want to deal with, plus I don't want even more magazines to have to keep tabs on. decided to go with a Bell & Carlson, they have very solid reviews. now I just need to find a good long distance range and do some before and after comparrisons.

Good choice on the Bell & Carlson! The aluminum bedding block definitely adds a good amount of rigidity. Just note that you will have a gap between the barrel and sides of the forend (cosmetic issue only) if you have the "base" SPS with the light contour sporter barrel, as the stock is channeled for the heavier tactical and varmint barrels. Also be sure to play with your torque specs, starting somewhere around 55 in/lbs and work your way up to 65in/lbs (this is where most people find the "sweet spot") to really dial in your groups. Plenty of good info floating around the shooting and "sniping" forums. What do you use this rifle for..varmint hunting, rec. shooting, benchrest? Have fun shooting!

its mostly a shtf contingency plan. but I take it out to the family farm and pick off coyotes maybe once a year, pretty much all recreational shooting. I knew going into it that the factory plastic stock was junk, just now getting around to doing some upgrades to it after a few years of owning the 700. it's got the heavier varmint barrel, so it should be ok in the B&C.

^SHTF contingency plan . The 700 is a good action and with a little tweaking can be a real tack driver from what I've seen. You may be surprised to see what even the new stock will do for accuracy.

it came in! I have it at 55"lbs now. the barrel isnt floated, in fact it touches on the right side. need to work it over when I have more time, but I snapped a pic as it is.

All black=clean looking set-up. What glass is that? Looks kinda like its on Leupold rings, hard to tell in pic

thanks! I stripped it back down and removed some excess composite material in a couple spots on the bedding block, barrel floats better now. passes the bill test. its a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40, with the bullet drop reticle. I dunno what rings they are, I had the guy at the BPS set it all up a few years back. I havent really done any shooting past 100 yds and Im really wanting to.
