I'm not in the Army, but I work for the Army, kinda. I'm a contractor. Anyways, I have to have an msf card to ride on base, so I went through the basic rider course offered on base... My understanding is that in the military, or at least the Army, you have to get permission from your CO to take the class. What that does, is basically makes it harder for you to ride in the military if your CO doesn't want you to. Also, keep in mind that my base is well known as a training base; we may not have boot camp here, but by GOD we have schools Of course, you have to have an msf card to ride on ANY military installation nowadays.


Just get the zip code for his duty station, and go to the msf site to look it up. At the very least, they should poc information.

This thread is a million years old but I'll chime in.

MSF courses on base are not free. And are not "offered," but required if you anticipate riding on base.

I took my msf course when I was stationed in TN.
The good thing about it there (and it'll vary from state to state) is upon completion,
all I had to do was take my certificate to the dmv to get my motorcycle endorsement.

They are free for active military. Or they are at least supposed to be now days.

They are free for active and retired military, dependents of active and retired military, DoD civilians, and depending on the base, civilian contractors.

Guess it'll vary from base to base, since they're usually run by contractors.
I did mine at Ft. Campbell with the 101st, I had to pay $250.

All bases should offer it, he would need to contact the base safety office. That's what i had to do and i am in the Air Force, it will be required if he want's to ride on base.

for navy and marines every base has a motorcycle instruction which requires and has worked with local MSF foundations to bring in instructors to key locations like there is a shit load of bases in SD but one base does the course for most of them. Its all free for navy and marines now. Just sign up online most commands have a Safety office which should already have discussed with you upon check in if you are or are not a rider and if you have or have not been involved with your MSF course and if it is up todate. Also now the base is requireing you to have the MSF card when you renew your stickers. If you need help in getting info go to http://www.msf-usa.org/ there you can find locations and I am pretty sure whatever branch of the military you are in it is free now. Before I know some locations did require to pay. But with the rising deaths and the lack of training the military adopted the program for everyone and it actually works. There has been a drop already. I am pretty envolved with this program and can offer you more info if anyone needs it just PM me.
