I moved into a rental home, and after being at the home for a month I mentioned to the landlord that the magazine I was working for was folding and I had to find something new soon. He offered me a job at his company as a sales rep. So I checked it out and took it. After being with the company for about 3 months the owner had a great idea he wanted to share with me on a more personal side of things. He offered a deal that consist of putting on a huge motorcycle rally and I can own 50% of the company with no financial investment...After hearing the details and getting excited, I said YES as long as it would not interfere with raising my daughter as a single mother... \n \nI still continued working as a sales rep for the owner of GearFest and his other company. Money was never an issue for this man, and everything he ever told me became true...I did my part as an organizer of the show, working my @ss off to get vendors, sponsors, hiring sales reps, and layout of the show done. I did all of the ordering of product, taking care of the sales people\'s accounts, hiring the entertainment, and making sure their deposits were met. All checks and monies were handled by Mark, the owner. He set the company up with a P.O. Box and all checks were sent to him at that mailing address. I handled no money nor did I ever know what was in the account. I was not issued on the Bank Account at all. YES! I did ask to be just so that I could check the balances at times but he refused to give me access. So I had to continue to ask every time I ordered something or hired talent I would verbally call him and as if this dollar amount was ok? He would give me the go ahead. So in all honesty I never question the money situation not one time??? \n \n After talking to Scott from the Starboyz and asking them to be the HOST of the Stunt portion of GearFest they had many questions including funds. Scott and I ironed out the details for the most part but when it came time to discuss the money, Mark stepped in and agreed with the Starboyz on the amounts to be paid and deposits. He flew Scott down to Tampa to take an overview of things. Listen to Scotts thoughts, and I believe Scott had a good time while he was here planning the event. Mark and Scott met that week and Scott verified dollar amounts, expenses, etc. At this time, Scott really had a better look at things and everything seemed justifiable. \n \n Finally after only 2 months from Showtime, Mark asked me to quit working for his company and he would pay me a small salary and just concentrate on GearFest. I told him that would be fine as long as I would have funds to make sure my daughter would be able to continue in Daycare and my house payment would be made. I dont really have any other billsSo we agreed. \n .(writing more but I have to start a new reply)\r\n another gearfest rant - Gixxie - 08-12-2026 \r\n \r\n After becoming fulltime with GearFest I handled pretty much everything. He gave me a corporate credit card and only asked that he approves all the orders like we agreed on before. Everything that I ordered approved through his credit card with no declining at all. Again, everything is still seeming exactly right. No issues. When it came time to ask about the entertainment I ran all of the talent by him and he agreed on the amounts and how much deposits needed to be. Everything was cool there. I discussed payouts for the stunt event with him and again, everything was approved. In the meantime, he was paying me with no problems at all???? \n \n I did notice a few things wrong. He was hiding GearFest from his brother; the other owner of the business he is runningAnd hiding things from his wife. Again, none of my business. I would get a little p.o ed when she would call me on a Saturday and asked if I was working as hard as Mark was today? I would tell her, NO, actually I am with my daughter. And I wish like hell I could tell her that her husband was down in Ybor City at \n Coyote Ugly hanging out with a few girls that he always goes to seebut you know. However, those issues had nothing to do with the financials of the business so I really didnt get involved with their problems. \n \n I had a meeting with a potential vendor that ended up talking to be about maybe a being an investorI mentioned this to Mark and he said he would rather not have another investor on board. Then he called me back the next day all hyped up and wanting me to make an appointment for us all to meet. I made the call, the potential investor couldnt meet until a week later. Mark was fine with that. I told Mark that him and I should meet up so that we can figure out why and what money amounts and percentages do we want this investor for. Mark came at me with a CRAZY dollar amount. I was like WHAT!? Why do we need that much? I thought we got this all handled? I said, Mark all I was thinking about is like another $25,000 for advertising, not going over board? Later, I would talk to this potential invested answering questions he had about the new business and things that he wanted answers toMark would not take his callsSo I did, and I answered them with honesty and things I didnt know, I told him I didnt know. But one thing was he asked me about Hotel rooms sold. I told him we had blocks of 20 at 4 different hotelsHe asked if they were all sold yet. I told him NO, they were not sold out yet. Finally come meeting time, the potential investor looked at me and kinda gave me a HOLD look with his hand and asked point blank at Mark, How many hotels rooms do you have sold? He said, Uhhhh, ummm, about 800. OMG!!!!!!!!! I thought!!!!! I looked at the guy and he said, Ok I think we are doing here, Mark have a nice day, and Gixxie I will be talking to you. After that Mark was mad, and said, Oh well, I didnt need him anyways! The guy called me up the next day, we had a nice talk, and I sent him tickets to come to the show. He came Saturday and loved what he saw, especially the stunts and straight told me, If Mark can lie to me that easy, then you might want to check and see who you are in business with! And I would love to work with you, as long as he is out of this picture. If this thing doesnt end up getting the attendance and he wants out, you let me know. I know it will take a few years to make big but the potential is here!\r\n |
