Why isn't stunt riding more popular?? - broham - 10-04-2012

I want to start a discussion to see some opinions. I'm not saying that stunt riding is un-popular. Most people my age have heard of stunt riding, but they don't really know anything about it. Kick ass Icon vids, ROC vids, and comps definitely help make the sport more well known, but I feel like it should just explode like skateboarding did!

What do you guys think?

I think its very popular compared to sports like Beer Can Regatta, Boomerand Throwing, Canine Freestyle Dancing(yes that is a sport) and Elephant Polo.
Compared to skateboarding....well stuntriding is not easy, you need alot of money to start and no parent wanna see their son get into stuntriding. Skateboarding is so popular cause everyone can do it and try it and buy a skateboard.

Its an extremely expensive hobby. I think that has got to be near the top of the list of reasons.

+1 all we do is destroy bikes is what every body thinks. And it's illegal. Where im from if you get caught doing anything that has to do with stuntriding, the cops take your ass down. It's looked at as problem to society that needs to be dealt with, not a sport. Atleast from where im from, that is the general opinion.

Cost/difficulty/have to be handy with tools/danger, it's still pretty new too even though its been done by a select few for over 20yrs. I am positive it will become a mainstream staple in motorcycle advertising and even now every bike rally has stunt shows so its getting there.

Agreed , it's def still a fairly new sport , shit hand brakes didn't come around til early 2000's right ? That's hardly 10 years . Skate boarding started becoming popular in like the 60s in concrete pools. Give it time

And like mentioned , it's expensive , a parent can buy a kid a 100-200 dollar board and gear and bam, he has a hobby . Stunt riding generally is something that a person gets into on there own and if they have funds , a lot of ppl graduate n go to college n might not have the money for something like this. Even if they see a video and like it, it's just not do-able for most ppl

maybe its just me but this coversation is pretty pointless. 1 its not as popular as skateboarding because like someone else said couple hundred bucks and your all set with the best of best parts and gear. in this sport for one you got to buy a bike 2-5 thousand dollars, now if you do or dont have stunt parts thats a additional depending on how you spend it 1-3 thousand dollars. then add maintence and breaking of parts another 5-2 thousand. now that that is covered which should be more then obvious. first time riders, these bikes have alot of power and most people dont like to get tossed off or run over their hand (r1wonder). then again you also have to ad in people cant just hop on and go you have to learn how to shift gears then learn hand brake and foot brake and bp.. its not as easy as getting on and pushing and doing a ollie or bunny hop....
