\r\n \r\n If you plan to go to 8 piston later, the bigger bore master would be better for that situation.
\n
\nBetween the two brands you mentioned, I have had both and the sizes that you are talking about. It is personal preference, but this is what I notice as the difference:
\n
\nThe 13mm Magura has a softer feel and a wider effective stroke, but is hard to tell where the lock up point is as you can continue to pull the lever way past where the wheel locked up. If you get used to this lever I think it could give more technical options.
\n
\nThe Brembo 16x18 has a definite lock up point and becomes very hard to pull when it reaches that point. I personally like that better, but that\'s what I learned with, so I am more comfortable with that predictability. Like I said, if I could get used to the Magura 13, it may give more control.
\n
\nAs far as how all systems work, more calipers will require more fluid to be moved - so you will want a bigger master. Maybe even bigger than 16x18\r\n

\r\n \r\n The main difference in master cylinder size as it relates to our use:
\n
\n- 19 and 20 mm masters are typically used to drive (2) four piston calipers
\n- 16mm are typically used on a singe four piston caliper (some bikes only have 1 disc)
\n- 13mm is typically used on a one or two piston caliper
\n
\nThis is due to the amount of fluid that the master\'s bore is designed to move to the calipers.
\n
\nWhat does this mean to us? well, for handbrake purposes, you would match the master size to the handbrake caliper size as appropriate or choose a different size based on the feel that you are looking for.
\n
\ni.e. A Large master used on a small caliper will have a very hard feel with little lever travel as it is trying to move a lot of fluid and has nowhere to move it to. Conversely, if you used a 13mm master with a four piston caliper, you will have a very soft lever with lots of travel (which some may like better as more variable control).
\n
\nYou can see how this can be a factor in the new "dual quad" (2 four piston) hand brake set ups that some are trying now. Even upgrading from dual stock caliper to a four piston will change the feel in your lever.\r\n

\r\n \r\n you dont want a 19x20 or 20mm handbreak on 8 pistons, the 16x18 will throw you over the bars no clutch and can lock the big rotor in any stall you wanna attempt. Shelly and myself have been running 8 pistons on the 16x18 bermbo for over a year. shit is $$\r\n

\r\n
Nice! I\'ve never ran 8 pistons before.... good info. \r\n

\r\n \r\n Magura for the win!... I had a brembo I liked it but IMHO the brembo has zero feel and is either no brake or brake hard where as my 13 magura I can apply the brake as needed either a little brake or alot! BUT...everyone has there own preferences and set ups its all how YOU feel if you don\'t like something change that shit!\r\n

which is better? I'll be gettin a 8 piston hb set up eventually too is one better for that?
