How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - nj636 - 12-14-2011 I've searched the forum and haven't seen this thread yet.. For the average joe's to the pro's, how did you learn to use the clutch? by that question i mean using it to save the bike (engine) from stalling which eventually leads to coasting, stalling ect.. was it by mistake/natural reaction and it just happened one day or did you spend sessions learning to use it? I'm at the point now where I'm concentrating on seat stander circles, I'm smooth but when the bike comes too far back and I whore the brake I stall and go boom with the bike haha pulling the clutch isn't even in my head. how did you learn to use the clutch? How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - JohnForLife - 12-14-2011 always leave a finger on it, that way it will become and instinct to pull it in when you need it. i always have one finger on the clutch. How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - RUTHLESS RAH - 12-14-2011 it happened to me by accident one day and when it happened i realized i was still in a wheelie but paused in one spot and i just let the clutch out smoothly...from then on i jus started doing it more..i still need practice though because most of the time my body weight is off to the side and i cant clutch out like that bc then shit gets sketchy How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - Teach - 12-14-2011 best way for me was to cruise around the lot on two wheels, skidding the tire which forces you to use the dclutch...that's how i learned clutch/hb. the same technique applies on 1 wheel How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - Petarded - 12-14-2011 Quote:
i will do this... I'm a handbrake whore... (i need to learn more footbrake) but... my original handbrake master was poop f4i non radial and i had to use my whole hand to get it to work properly... so i unfortunately learned by clutching up then moving my hand to the handbrake entirely. This method works well except when you need to grab the clutch and miss then you launch the bike into a warehouse wall (and bash your forks and smash your front wheel into your radiator... or ghost ride it up a hill into the woods) How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - hoffmanxtreme - 12-14-2011 ![]() ![]()
How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - redstar - 12-14-2011 Good times haha! How did you learn pulling in the clutch? - *Joker* - 12-14-2011 I'm still learning but what helped me is to stall and step off the back, and then jump back on and start going again. After you start to get a feel for that you can start trying to stall without stepping off. You just get the bike to a dead stop by pulling in the clutch and brake while behind balance point, then let bike drop in front of Bp, let out the clutch/brake out and get going again. I find its easier to practice that while cruising around the lot doing big wide circles, not while doing tight circles, but as a side product it will teach you how to get out of tight circles without losing the wheelie because when you pull in the clutch the bike will straighten out, and you can ride out of the circle and into something else. You can keep yourself entertained all day just rolling around the lot and playing with the clutch and brake to see what happens. Challenge yourself to keep the front tire off the ground as long as possible. One piece of advice Recklessryan gave me regarding the clutch is that if you THINK about pulling in the clutch to save your circle you're already too late. It only works when it becomes second nature. You need to start playing around with pulling in the clutch whenever you feel like your circle/wheelie is going bad or just start sabotaging your perfectly good wheelies/circles and pull it in to see what happens. At first your timing will be way off but slowly muscle memory will take over and you will just start doing it whenever you want to save your circle or get out of one. Once you get that down, you are halfway there. The next step will be letting the clutch back out and going forward again, but if you are practicing what I told you to in the first paragraph you should already have that part in the bag.
