Stand up help? - Deshi Kicks - 10-19-2011

Ok so about 5-6 years ago I used to clutch up in second-third and ride it out, and do circles at red lights etc (with one foot on the ground). I never got much further than that, and I haven't done anything since. I was a lot smaller back then. Now I'm a pretty big dude so that's somewhat of an issue but it can be worked with.

I can clutch it up and ride it out in first, but I wanna learn how to stand. Like right foot on front footrest/brake, left foot on passenger footrest. I'm worried about either looping or going off to the left. Should I push down with my left foot, or pull up, or just let the clutch do all the work? What do you guys suggest?

first off i hope ur age in ur info is wrong then if you were doing all that 5-6 years ago lol just get in a lot and put in seat time, start in staggered of fis and go from there, im in the same stage but havent rode for a while, it takes time...just keep centered and when you feel like youre gonna loop ur probably at bp haha but just hit the footbrake and ull come back down to 2 wheels

My age is right. I was doing it when I was 14/15, I'll be 21 in December. I just didn't say what kind of bike

'98 Honda CG125 haha

I haven't actually tried it yet. I've gotten into position, but it just feels odd. My bike is stock geared so it'd have to be a big ass lot since I'd gain speed, as I'd be trying to practice at least getting it up in first gear since it's the easiest.

But should I push down with my back foot, or pull up, or neither?

EDIT: I ride every day, my bike is my daily transportation so I have a really good feel for it if that's what you meant by seat time.

no i meant seat time on one wheel, riding on 2 wheels is alot different then learning idle and such imo haha and lot doesnt have to be huge, just get to bp once u clutch it up and ull be good, just keep your body centered and stay on the bike and remember the footbrake

ull adjust after the first clutch up and will know what to do to stay on the bike and keep it up, dont really have to chase it out either, just practice, practice practice haha also someone with experience to help is always nice but i basically learned solo and im guessing lots of other people did/do too so its not impossible, oh and get some video

being a bigger guy it takes less effort to clutch up staggar or seat stander... just kinda keep your weight over your hips when u clutch up and stay in a jockey position so u can lean left to right or bail out if need be... make sure to get video of yourself so u can learn from your mistakes and correct your technique, and it makes for good funny videos if u do happen to fail, lol...

Ah I get it about the seat time. I kinda figured that's what you meant, I just hear a lot of people talking about how you gotta know your bike first etc so I wasn't sure if that's what you meant or not.

As far as the advice, thanks guys, I'll work on it. I've never had one at BP so I'm a little worried that I may wind up looping trying to hit it. But I think for now, I'll just work on getting the bike up, and once I get used to that I can work on hunting the BP.

Also remember first gear is about slow stuff not revlimiter power wheelies. The lot can be small and still effective. Clutch it up from an almost stopped position and if you don't hit BP. Then bring it back down and try again, and again, and again, and. ..well you get the idea. I learned the fastest in the smallest lot I've ever ridden cause I knew I had to hit BP or bring It down if not I was hitting a wall lol

stop being a squid.

^^^ this. Stock gearing doesn't mean shit. Guys do circles on stock gearing. If you used to do circles and long Wheelies then you know how to clutch and brake. Just stand and clutch it up, go from there. Being in here with bunch of other newbs just chatting about it doesn't help....

Stand up help? - Deshi Kicks - 10-20-2011

All I meant by stock gearing was that plus my size, I can't do slow ass lot wheelies in small areas, not that I couldn't get it up. From my understanding, bigger sprockets help with the slow idle wheelies.

As far as "riding long wheelies", I wouldn't call it that. I'd chase them, I wouldn't hit BP and just cruise on.

And, I practiced on the way home from class tonight, thank you very much. On an empty road of course. Basically I just wanted to know if I should be pushing down with my foot, pulling up with my hands, or just using the clutch/gas.

Yeah I'm the mega squid when it comes to stunting, but everyone here was at some point as well.
