Pitbike Disk Rear Hand Brake - BirDMaN420 - 09-19-2011

Hey ppl,

I'm keen to setup my pitbike with rear disk brakes with a handbrake, without paying outta my ass for these superbike conversion kits that go onto the master cylinder. I was wondering, would a scooter/quad rear hand brake system not work just fine? Otherwise a front brake system with an extended brake line, with the lever/cylinder upside down on the left side of the handlebars.

Any ideas appreciated
Thanx

I would try a cable to move the rear brake pedal. You could rig a mount to hold it. It might work? hydraulic gets expensive quick. a junction style handbrake should work plenty good on a pitbike also, you need a real small master, like a 12mm.

anyone ever try to make like a mountain bike disc brake setup on a fiddy? im just wondering if that would be enough power to slow it down idk how strong those setups perform.

I have used one, the back brake was insane as a handbrake. it was hard to use.

Let me post pictures of my set up when I get home. I have a rear disc set up on my 50.

I paid way more than I should have I think but I have to tell you it works amazing! I just wish I had a foot brake as I have it set up as a hand brake only.

Right now I am using a 2003 636 front master with a CRG lever with a steal braided line running to a chep O caliper off a pit bike.

Pics when I get home.

Pics would be awesome! I was thinking of trying to mod 2 brackets onto the back so they are independent, 1 for foot, 1 for hand. Have seen pics of that before.
2003 636 front master - is that an upside down front brake cylinder placed on the left side of the bars? I guess the pics will clear that up for me. So i take it the front brake system being converted to be used on the rear would work then?? Just need a longer brake line

@Ryan Moore, i'm not sure what a junction style handbrake is? Is that the conversion guys do on their rear cylinder where the front brake comes into the cylinder from the side?

@loogie the bike does have disc brakes front and rear, i just want a hand brake for the rear
